Personal Care
I am still learning when it comes to independent personal care, but I still struggle.
Hair:
If you have a physical disability, long hair is hard to manage, therefore short, or medium hair should increase how easy it is to maintain when brushing. In the case of washing, I found Shampoo can be sticky, use this to your advantage, if you have |
medium hair push the hair on top of your head and rub the shampoo in that way, until all your hair looks covered. It may take a few tries before you are able to do this.
Shoelaces:
This is tricky if you only have good fine motor skills in one hand. I still struggle with this sometimes, but what I found is that if I place the left lace to my right hand (my weaker side) and pull with the left, then twist the lace that is in my left around my fingers to produce a knot, I can thread the lace through the knot, and |
then take the lace from my right and thread it through.
Video from http://www.stroke4carers.org/ Washing
Here is a good video that shows how to wash one-handed Bras Girls, what I have found to help me in this situation is do the back first, and put it over your head like a t-shirt. Taking it of is easy if you can find the clips. When putting a bra on after a shower, make sure your back is dry, if possible. |
