About Me
I was born on the 30th March 1996 and diagnosed with Right Hemiplegia, a lifetime condition which I have had since birth. It is most commonly known as Cerebral Palsy. My movement, strength and fine motor control is considerably restricted on my right side. Although I am able to walk without a mechanical aid or support, I find stairs and steps difficult.
I wear an orthotic sock to help improve my ankle and foot alignment, and to help prevent my right hip from extending when I walk. My nightmare and archenemy is snow and ice as my balance is hugely affected by this type of weather. I dread the winter, as my joints stiffen causing me pain, and there is a chance that my enemy will lay its minions at the foot of my door. |
I have to use a spoon in my left hand when eating foods that cannot be picked up by the hand, such as beans and am able to cope with most areas of self care. I am currently evaluating my needs when preparing meals, but currently need help with many tasks such as opening cans and bottles, handling hot and/or heavy items and opening and closing some packages. I also need help taking any medication that I might require, and need to use a tablet crusher as I am unable to swallow tablets or capsules, and require help with heavy loads of carrying.
Contrary to many believes, my learning ability is not affected, but I am unable to take large amounts of hand-written notes and so complete all my work digitally, whether that's a laptop, tablet, or phone. |
I am a student, currently in my A2 year of college A-level in Film, Media and English Literature and Language and have applied to five university courses in Creative Writing and Media/Film Studies, all of which have given me a conditional offer, and thus I am one step closer into reaching my dream and ambition of becoming a screenwriter.
